I had a website crashing randomly with
A process serving application pool suffered a fatal communication error with the World Wide Web Publishing Service. The process id was ‘5240′. The data field contains the error number.

I have been also a victim of this 256KB default thread size which wasted my week to figure out the reason. Although i am thankful to Zhenlan Wang who spared his precious time to check the cause.
I am in complete agreement with your worry as to how much it takes to have some meaningful message when such a crash occurs.
I will be posting an elucidated post on this very soon
